FedEx is an American global courier company headquartered in Memphis, Tennessee. We are going to go through the distribution center opportunities at FedEx here. Let’s get started.

Company History –
FedEx was incorporated on October 2,1997. However, its history can be traced back to 1973. It was initially called Federal Express, which was the name that the company used until the year 2000. After 2000, it was called ‘FedEx’. FedEx acquired a lot of companies in the 90s after the new millenium. Some of the companies that FedEx acquired were Tower Group International, WorldTariff, Kinko’s Inc. The company today employs more than 300,000 workers and ships more than 9 million shipments each day.

Jobs at FedEx distribution centers
Following are some of the entry-level jobs you can get at FedEx distribution centers:

Material Handler: As a material handler at FedEx, your responsibilities are to perform routine and some non-routine tasks involving receiving, stocking and shipping of materials. You will be performing these tasks in a warehouse, cross dock or production environment. You will ensure proper separation, palletizing, loading and storage of shipments, both outbound and inbound. You will prepare and maintain records of merchandise that has been shipped. You will post weights and shipping charges and prepare materials for final shipment. You may be required to use PC and/or RF-based systems to perform tasks and use manual or powered pallet jacks. You must be able to lift medium to heavy loads 40% of the time. You will be required to lift over 50 lbs with assistance. A High school diploma or equivalent with 2 years of related experience is required for this position. Additionally, it also requires forklift certification.

Dockworker : As a dockworker, you will be performing freight handling using appropriate equipments including forklift, pallet jack and hand truck. You will verify documentation to ensure that it matches freight description in terms of type, weight etc. using electronic or manual system. You will also secure freight inside trailers using tools and supplies such as pallets, ropes, straps etc. You will recoup/repair damaged freight if required. For this position, a high school diploma or equivalent is required and the candidate must be at least 18 years old. Prior experience in warehousing or freight handling is preferred. You must be able to lift or carry hand freight of varying weights and lift dock plates weighing up to 100 lbs. You will be opening trailer doors requiring approximately 75 pounds of lift force several times a day. The working hours may vary owing to operational need.
