Safeway distribution center jobs: Safeway Inc. is a supermarket chain in North America. It is the second largest supermarket chain, second only to Kroger. We will take a look at employment opportunities at Safeway.

Company History –
Safeway was started as Sam Seelig Company in April of 1912. Seelig opened a single grocery store inLos Angeles at the corner of Pico and Figueroa streets. After World War I, Sam Seelig Company became heavily indebted to its main grocery wholesaler, which was a firm owned by W.R.H Weldon. As a consequence, Weldon took control of the firm and let Seelig take charge of Retail Operations. The name Safeway was conceived as a result of a contest held specifically to change the name of the company. By 1926, the company had 322 stores in Southern California. By 1932, the number of stores was 3,400. The company went through a lot of ups and downs, mergers and takeovers in the decades that followed. Today, Safeway has more than 1600 locations and employs more than 178,000 people.

Warehouse Worker: As a warehouse worker, you will be required to select and palletize cases of merchandise for shipment to retail grocery stores. For this position, previous warehouse experience with an excellent safety record as well as familiarity with electric jacks is required. You will be required to lift up to 100 lbs of weight, making the position quite physically demanding. A strength test will be required for this position. Other duties as assigned, may include cleaning out trailers, driving a forklift, pallet jack, or other functions.

Warehouse Clerk: As a warehouse clerk, your responsibility is shipping and receiving paperwork in all warehouses. Proficient 10 key skills is highly desirable for this position. You will be required to manage several tasks simultaneously. You should be able to work flexible schedules including weekends and holidays as well. The candidate must be Proficient with Microsoft Windows / computer literacy in order to read, verify, enter data into various systems for COOL compliance, Food Safety Compliance, HACCP compliance, and SOX compliance. You will look up assignments on the RF computer and might have to drive a pallet jack as needed.

Stocker – As a stocker, your responsibilities are to stock the pickline, rotate stock within warehouse, operate forklift and pallet-jack, ensure “first in,first out” staging of product, alert operators and supervisor of product packaging defects; remove all damaged products. You will  employ appropriate 5S techniques and perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
